You are cordially invited to join Saltburn and District Bridleways Group on Sophia’s Charity Santa Ride on Sunday 26 November to raise money for Teesside Hospice.
Many of you will have met or known Sophia Ward (nee Woodings). Her enthusiasm and passion for life was infectious and she lived her life to the full. Animals, including horses ran through her veins and were at the heart of her existence. From people to rabbits and horses and everything in between, Sophia touched the lives of them all.
She always lived her life in the moment and was the first person to help others who were struggling. She was such a selfless person despite struggling with her own health and being in and out of hospital from an early age, undergoing multiple kidney transplants.
Sophia was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in March 2022 and underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. But, devastatingly, the cancer spread to her spine and skin and she passed away in April 2023 at the age of 30.
She was a huge part of the equine community in this area, having loaned horses, helped with horses and worked at Saltburn vets. She spent her final days at Teesside Hospice where she was able to marry her husband Steven the day before she passed.
Sophia always had a smile on her face and she would never let anything get in her way. Always up for a laugh and always coming up with crazy ideas….
